The suppression and oppression of the Animals in Wicked as well as the actions and motives of the Wizard seem to mirror those taken by people of color and leaders during Apartheid in South Africa. Is there a connection?

Context: in Wicked Animal with a capital "A" look like normal animals except they can talk and they interact and have the same intelligence as humans.
The way that the Wizard creates propaganda and forces authorities to put Animals in cages, leave their high powered jobs (like Dr. Dillamond at Shiz University), and stop going to school is similar to what the South African government did during Apartheid. For example, when the Apartheid government created laws that prohibited black people from obtaining jobs and education. Such as the Bantu Labour Act.
